  29. REQUIREMENTS - VGA based ATI products:
  30. =====================================
  31.  
  32. Various modes  require  different  hardware  and memory. If the driver's
  33. hardware and memory  requirements  are  not met at load time, the driver
  34. will exit to DOS  and  report  an  error.  This error will also occur if
  35. the card's monitor configuration  is  incorrect (i.e. card is configured
  36. for a PS2 monitor and the selected resolution is higher than 640x480).

  38. Please note that mode  65H  (1024x768/16  paged  type) is not supported.
  39. Instead, mode 55H (1024x768/16 planar type) is supported.  V3 VGA Wonder
  40. do not support mode 55H. A V3 VGA Wonder card is identified by having V3
  41. as the first two characters in the ROM version label. If this resolution
  42. is required and you own a  V3  VGA  Wonder,  ATI  has a hardware upgrade
  43. program in place. Please contact ATI Customer Support for details.

  48. INSTALLATION:
  49. ============
  50.  
  51. All driver files required by Windows are in compressed format. Compressed
  52. files are indentified by having an underscore character  (_)  as the last
  53. character in the filename's  extension.  Setup  will  expand  these files
  54. automatically during the driver installation. These files can be expanded
  55. manually  by  using  the  utility  program  EXPAND.EXE supplied with your
  56. Windows 3.1 package (use  the -r option). These  files  are copied to the
  57. Windows SYSTEM sub-directory.
  58.  
  59. To Install ATI's Windows 3.1 Drivers:
  60.  
  61. 1)  Setup Windows using  the  Microsoft  VGA  display driver. Insure that
  62.     this setup is working  before  proceeding.
  63.  
  64.     If you are upgrading from Windows  3.0 to 3.1, set the display driver
  65.     to Microsoft VGA in your current  copy  of Windows 3.0 before running
  66.     the upgrade installation.

  68. 2)  Exit Windows.
  69.  
  70. 3)  Change directory (CD) to your Windows directory.
  71.  
  72. 4)  Place the ATI Windows 3.1 Display Driver Disk into drive A (or B).
  73.  
  74. 5)  Type "setup" at the DOS prompt.
  75.  
  76. 6)  Select Display - "Other (Requires disk provided by a hardware manufact.."
  77.  
  78. 7)  Select the desired screen resolution and press Enter. Setup will copy
  79.     files from the diskette into your  Windows directories. Setup may ask
  80.     for some Windows diskettes.  Enter  "A:" (or "B:") so setup continues
  81.     to use the ATI driver disk.

  83. 8)  When Setup is complete, type "win" at the MS-DOS prompt to start
  84.     Windows.

  88. Notes - General:
  89. ===============
  90.  
  91. The ATI driver disk is designed  to  copy  all  available drivers to your
  92. Windows SYSTEM  directory  depending  on  which  type  of ATI product you
  93. own. For example,  if  you  select  any  ATI  VGA   driver, all ATI   VGA
  94. drivers will be copied.  This   method  reduces     the need for Setup to
  95. reuse the ATI driver disk repeatedly for post alternate driver selections.

  98. Notes - VGA based drivers:
  99. =========================

  101. The following drivers contain support for V3 VGA Wonder cards:
  102. . 640x480/256 Small & Large font (512K)
  103. . 800x600/16  Small Font (256K)
  104. . 800x600/256 Small & Large font (512K)
  105.  
  106. For windowed DOS sessions, it is recommended that you select "High Graphics"
  107. for the MSDOS and DOS  application  PIF files. It is required if you select
  108. the 1024x768/16 color driver.

  110. The following stock Microsoft drivers can be selected:
  111. . VGA  (640x480/16 color)
  112. . SVGA (800x600/16 color) - except the V3 VGA Wonder
  113.
